ABOUT DAVE O’CONNOR

HEY, I'M COACH DAVE

I’m here to help you see yourself more clearly and with purpose. Sound intense? It’s not really. And since you made your way this far, I have a feeling that’s what you’re looking for. I bet you’re also curious about what makes me worthy of being your coach.

Curiosity
My most valuable quality as your coach will be my curiosity. While we all share universal experiences, I believe no two clients and no two humans are alike. Understanding - and then activating - what makes you uniquely you will inform our collaboration as much as my coaching style and skill. I also bring an open mind to the models, tools, references, and tone that shape our coaching relationship. If you’re craving a thought partner, I can move in that direction. If you need specific direction and accountability, we can make that happen too.

Responsibility

That gets us to my number one responsibility: to know and serve your agenda during our sessions and over the course of our coaching contract. If or when your focus of attention or priorities shift I’ll shift with them. Your agenda, in other words, leads our work together.

Setting
I back up that curiosity and responsibility by bringing my entire self to coaching - an open mind, humor, strategy, warmth, accountability, creativity, skepticism, and enthusiasm. This comes to life in the setting of our sessions, whether virtual, in-person or over the phone.

For a sense of how I’ve impacted clients, I encourage you to review the testimonials on the home page.

WHY ME?

I bring skill and empathy into our sessions from a lived experience, including:

  • 130+ hours of coaching clients

  • 70+ hours of in-depth coach training with Harvard’s Institute of Coaching and the Co-Active Training Institute, two of the international standard bearers in coach training

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology

  • First-hand knowledge of the client experience as a current recipient of coaching and therapy

  • Experience with divorce, disability, loss of loved ones, and career transitions

I will respect your assumptions, aspirations, and behaviors as a blank canvas upon which your own unique understanding will be painted, rather than funneling you through a one-size-fits-all “self-help” or generic corporate training formula.

I will provide you with compassionate support paired with practical, goal-oriented accountability.

I will provide you with media and materials to support your curiosity and work between our sessions.

I will check in regularly for feedback about my coaching style to ensure you are receiving the most value possible from our coach-client relationship.

MY APPROACH

If I had to describe my approach to coaching in a word, it would be questions. In fact, if there is just one gap I might be successful in filling with you, it is co-creating a space for questions about you. If you do nothing else towards self-development today, I encourage you to celebrate that you care enough about your growth to create this space for yourself!

I work through what I call an Insight-driven Action model. This models relies heavily upon the client’s awareness of purpose and vision so they take confidently take action to create change.

My approach also includes honoring that your own reflection on questions that arise in our sessions, and the actions you commit to taking as a result will change your life. Though we may celebrate your change together, I consider it essential that you gain your own wisdom and confidence through your own actions, rather than me offering you advice, counsel, or formulas for success.
